【Upgraded Details in the New Version for Better User Experience】
Wayne points out that compared to the 2022 model, the new version of the A68 electric grinder features several design improvements. The Femobook logo is now laser-engraved on the motor base, maintaining a clean, minimal aesthetic while enhancing the overall texture and finish.
The groove design on the base has been removed, and the magnetic alignment for the grind cup is retained, making it easier to place and remove the cup smoothly without sticking.
In addition, the grinder’s grind chute is equipped with two built-in brushes. These brushes sweep the bottom of the burrs during grinding to reduce powder retention and keep the interior clean.
For more thorough cleaning, users can manually rotate the grind chute after grinding to activate the brush mechanism more strongly. Wayne specifically mentions that since brushes may wear down over time, the manufacturer has included an extra replacement brush in the package.
【Noticeable Noise Reduction, Softer Operation Sound】
Wayne points out that the previous version of the A68 was noticeably louder during operation, which affected the overall experience. Therefore, he conducted a noise comparison test between the new and old versions.
The results showed that the old version of A68 reached a peak volume of 78.5 dB when running idle, while the new version was reduced to 73.6 dB - nearly a 5 dB difference.
Even though the drop in volume is significant, Wayne mentions the real improvement is in how the sound feels: the operation sound is noticeably quieter and has a softer tone in actual use.
He adds that this noise reduction is not just a numerical improvement but a practical enhancement that makes the grinder more pleasant to use overall.
【Extremely Low Retention, Practically Zero Waste】
In Wayne’s real-world test, the new version of A68 grinds 20g of coffee beans in about 15 seconds, and the output weight was nearly identical to the input.
However, Wayne emphasizes that no grinder can truly achieve zero retention. Even if the input and output weight are the same, some fines may still remain inside the grinder, which he thinks is a normal situation. He concludes that the A68 can be considered a grinder with “virtually zero retention”[1].

The internal brush design helps sweep away static-clinging grounds from the burrs. Place the ring above the grind cup, lift them together, and tap against the table to release the ground into the cup. The cup base has a built-in buffer pad to reduce wear.
【Wayne Shih’s Review: Excellent Performance, the Only Grinder He is Willing to Long-Term Use】
Wayne thinks that both the new and old versions of the A68 deliver excellent espresso extraction results. While the grind cup diameter differs from the size he usually prefers for his portafilter, he still highly rates the A68 overall. Wayne suggests that Femobook could offer more grind cup size options.
Wayne specifically points out that, compared to stepless adjustment dials, the A68 uses a stepped grind adjustment system, which ensures precise changes in grind size. This prevents users from losing track of the original setting when switching between espresso and pour-over[1].
Wayne adds that he has used the old version of A68 for over a year and, compared to other brands, it is the only electric grinder he is willing to continue using long-term. The noise reduction in the new version has further increased his willingness to keep using it.
Finally, Wayne states that if he had to recommend a grinder priced around 800 USD, the A68 would definitely be worth considering.
