Femobook A5 Electric Grinder Review┃Wayne Shih

【Wayne Shih - From Café Owner to YouTuber, A Coffee Professional Based in Tainan, Taiwan】

The speaker in the video is Wayne Shih, the owner of “Café Drizzle” in Tainan and he is also a popular coffee YouTuber with nearly 120,000 subscribers.

With years of experience running a café, Wayne has mastered the art of coffee brewing and is passionate about sharing his knowledge through videos.

The videos cover brewing techniques, equipment reviews, and coffee education in a way that’s both professional and practical. His content has earned the attention and admiration of many coffee lovers.

【Free from Outlet Restrictions! Grind Anytime, Anywhere】

Wayne points out that the biggest difference between the A5 and A68 grinders is that the A5 uses battery power and has a lighter body, making it easier to use in various environments[1].

Because this electric grinder does not require a power outlet, it solves issues for users in limited spaces, with insufficient sockets, or those who frequently move between locations. It offers greater flexibility overall.

Even for those who prefer using grinders at a fixed spot, the A5 supports Type-C charging. Since there is no external power adapter, it significantly reduces desktop clutter.

Wayne thinks that the A5 is designed to balance convenience and everyday usability, making it suitable for more diverse usage scenarios, which is one of its major advantages[2].

1. The grinder is equipped with a 6000mAh high-capacity battery. Depending on bean type and grind size, a full charge can support approximately 30 to 50 grind sessions.

2.
The grinder supports power bank charging and allows simultaneous grinding while charging.

【Low Retention Design! No Bean Left Behind】

Wayne points out that the A5 features a smart detection system. When the grinder detects no resistance during operation, it automatically stops, which he sees as very power-efficient.

Although grinding for espresso takes a bit more time with the A5 grinder, its low-speed design results in lower fine-particle output, producing a cleaner flavor and allowing subtler flavor notes and finer nuances in the cup[1].

In addition, Wayne also mentions that the A5’s structure design effectively reduces grind retention. In real-world testing, leftover grounds measured only around 0.1g, which is excellent performance.

He further explains that grind retention is mainly caused by static. By lightly misting the beans with water before grinding, the impact of static electricity can be significantly reduced[2].

1. To ensure balanced grind efficiency and coffee quality, the burrs were matched with a fixed-speed motor after testing. This helps preserve coffee flavor as much as possible.

For example, grinding 20g of beans at an espresso setting takes about 40 seconds. Actual grinding time may vary based on bean type and grind weight.

2. To reduce retention, the bean inlet, burr set, and outlet are aligned vertically to shorten the grind path and minimize leftover grounds. After grinding, rotate and remove the magnetic grind chute.

The internal brush design helps sweep away static-clinging grounds from the burrs. Place the ring above the grind cup, lift them together, and tap against the table to release the grounds into the cup. The cup base has a built-in buffer pad to reduce wear.

【Wayne Shih’s Review: Excellent Espresso Performance with Layered Flavor】

Wayne believes the A5 electric grinder excels in espresso grinding, delivering delicate and nuanced flavors with noticeable complexity in every shot. He is very satisfied with its performance.

Although he feels the A5’s bean funnel size slightly differs from what he’s used to, but does not impact usability. It inherits the A68’s magnetic design. The overall body is noticeably compact, making it easier to carry and store.

Additionally, the rechargeable design solves limitations related to space and socket availability. For users who frequently change brewing environments, the A5 offers a more flexible grinding experience.
